My Second Year as Liberal Advocate for Co-operatives

Dear friends,

Here you will find a document summarizing my second year as Liberal Advocate for Co-operatives. It was recently distributed at the 2014 Congress & Annual General Meeting of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada(CMC), which took place in Moncton, New Brunswick, from June 16 to 19. CMC is the new organisation that incorporates the Canada‐based work of its two founding organizations: the Canadian Cooperative Association (CCA) and the Conseil canadien de la coopération et mutualité (CCCM).

The co-operative model is a proven structure that greatly empowers each member, resulting in a wonderful combination of business success and social responsibility – which plays an important role in the economy and in our communities.

In my role as the Liberal Advocate for Co-operatives, I am working to garner support for this important sector and I remain committed to the goal of promoting the co-operative model in order to mitigate the detrimental effects of growing economic disparity.

My First Year as Liberal Advocate for Co-operatives

Dear friends,

You will find a document summarizing my first year as Liberal Advocate for Co-operatives. It was recently distributed at the 2013 Congress & Annual General Meetings of two Canadian co-operative associations, which are the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) and Conseil canadien de la coopération et de la mutualité (CCCM), which takes place in Edmonton from June 26 to 28. On this occasion, the two national associations of cooperatives gathered under the theme: “Sharing our successes; building the future”. I have been attending this event since its beginning. Yesterday, I gave a keynote speech about the importance and potential of the cooperative movement in Canada.

So far, I have met many representatives of the co-operative sector from across the country. The energy of participants was obvious in debates and discussions. I engaged with them on a variety of captivating subjects.

The co-operative model is a proven structure that greatly empowers each member, resulting in a wonderful combination of business success and social responsibility – which plays an important role in the economy and in our communities.

By continuing to work together and for the common good, we will sustain and grow the co-operative sector!
